Donna Greenstein

I live on a farm north of Toronto, Ontario where my husband and I run an organic cow-calf operation.  Thirty years ago I established an organic fruit orchard and a garden containing vegetables, fruits, annuals and perennials.  I taught high school for 28 years and am now happily retired.

At last I was able to devote time to watercolours.  I was fascinated by botanical art as I loved growing flowers, fruit and veggies for so many years.

I have taken classes and workshops from Pamela Stagg at the Toronto Botanical Gardens, Marianne Broome in King City, Robin Jess of New Jersey, Leslie Staple at Toronto Board of Education, Karen Taylor in Aurora, Kathryn Bourbonnier at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, David McEown in Aurora and Ken McFarlane in Laskey.

I am the treasurer of the Botanical Artists of Canada and auditor of the Schomberg Horticultural Society.

I have exhibited with the Skylight Gallery in Aurora, at Canada Blooms in Toronto, the Heschel Arts Festival in Thornhill, the Bindertwine Festival in Kleinburg, Neilson Park Exhibition in Etobicoke, and the Festival of the Arts in Aurora.

My two passions are gardening and art so consequently I combine them into botanical watercolours.  I am partial to multiple glazes to capture the luminosity of the fruit and vegetables that I love to paint.  All of my works are originals painted from life on hot press paper.  The magnificence of each leaf, stem and flower takes my breath away; everything in nature is astounding.
