Ann Love

Born in Toronto in 1947, Ann Love graduated with an M.A. in English Literature from U. of T. in 1970.

As a young woman, Ann was a founder of both Pollution Probe at the University of Toronto and the Carcross Community Education Center in Yukon. Since then, Ann has maintained a passion for natural history and wilderness. She and her sister, Jane Drake, have published 26 books for kids, mostly with environmental themes, including The Kids Cottage Book, The Kids Campfire Book, Cool Woods: A Trip Around the World’s Boreal Forest, Snow Amazing: Cool Facts and Warm Tales

Ann started to paint in watercolor as a child with Ed McClure, a neighbour and father of one of her girlfriends. He encouraged her to take watercolor lessons at the Coach House and the Royal Ontario Museum. Later, she studied under Larry Middlestadt at Central Technical School and Toronto School of Art. Recently, Ann took up botanical painting – with support from classes with Celia Godkin, Pamela Stagg and Margit Koritar. She joined a group of botanical artists in her home community of King and has been painting a series of works to record the native plants of the Happy Valley Forest, Oak Ridges Moraine.
